Teletherapy Sessions

Teletherapy, also known as online therapy, is therapy delivered by our speech language therapists online. Therapy can be conducted using a computer or a tablet (even on a phone if necessary). Research shows that teletherapy is an effective, evidence based option for children needing speech language therapy. Our teletherapy sessions are extremely similar to our face to face sessions, with the obvious difference of not being in the same room. We use the same toys and games, as well as a large selection of online games and learning materials. We use screen sharing to make our online games, activities and iPad applications interactive and fun for your child.

We are offering teletherapy sessions during our usual operating hours. We can also offer teletherapy sessions for your child at their school. We normally have the help of a staff member at your child's school (normally their class teacher or a teacher's aide) to help your child access their device, find a quiet spot and participate in their teletherapy session.

What Is Needed For a Teletherapy Session?

At Speak To Me we use the Cliniko online platform for our teletherapy sessions. This platform is HIPPA compliant which means it offers our client's maximum online safety and confidentiality. As part of your booking confirmation you will receive an email with a Cliniko link which gives you access to join your teletherapy session. You will also receive an email link at the time of your session, with the same invitation to join your session. Its as easy as clicking on the link to get started.

You will need to think about what device you are going to use in your teletherapy session, computer, laptop or tablet. You will need to make sure that your child's microphone and camera are switched on. You will need to consider how noisy the environment is and your child's seating for their teletherapy session.

When Is Teletherapy a Suitable Option?

In today's climate, with distancing restrictions put in place due to the Covid 19 virus, teletherapy has been a wonderful solution. This type of therapy means all of the children who need speech and language therapy services can continue to receive input during this uncertain time. Continuation of services is so important for all of our clients, as fostering our children's communication skills needs to be our utmost priority. No child should feel that they can't communicate their basic wants, needs, or ideas successfully.
